Day 18: Missoula to Stoney Creek Campground
Cycling up Rock Creek
This morning we followed some bike paths out of Missoula by the University of Montana. Once we exited town, we were mostly on paved roads past Clinton. In an effort to meet up with a Warm showers guest traveling westbound that we hosted in Ohio several weeks ago, we altered two days of the route to intersect with him. As a result the second half of the day was on a dirt road that followed Rock Creek. A wonderful decision! Rock Creek is a top trout fishing area. Much of it runs through National Forest with campsites and there were many people fly fishing. The road follows the river making a relaxing ride. We carried lunch and dinner with us today, but the dinner site had no water. Fortunately, the gentleman at the campsite next to us let us borrow his water filter - thanks Brady. After dinner we rode another 4 miles to the campsite for the night. This site had water and a bazillion mosquitoes, so we quickly set up the tents and took refuge from the blood thirsty insects. Lots of deer and ground squirrels but no bear encounters!
