Day 16: Haugan to Alberton

We had great weather and scenery for the ride today. It was a long day with decent elevation and a detour through the woods. First down the St. Regis River valley on the Route of the Olympian retreat to St. Regis, where we left  the Milwaukee Road behind,  we then started up the Clark Fork valley.  Looks like fun water rafting.  Unfortunately, sections of the rail trail near Tarkio are now private property and require alternate routes. The new animals for the day were prairie dogs and a ruffed grouse. Too fast and far away to get a picture, but I’ll work on it. We made our own breakfast at the Airb&b, ate lunch on the trail amidst a beautiful pine forest and had dinner at the restaurant that hosted our campground, River’s Edge Resort  Disclaimer: if you are my wife or mom, do not read this part. The last 5 miles of our ride today were on Interstate 90, there were no other options. Although the speed limit was 80 mph, the shoulder was extra wide. A huge thank you to all the cars and trucks that moved into the left lane as they passed us.
