Day 13: Heyburn State Park to Wallace
I’m There was some light rain during the night, but not enough to wash the dirt off the bikes and bags. After breakfast and breaking camp, we started the day’s ride along the edge of Chatcolet Lake. Crossing the historic bridge, we enjoyed “smooth”and “easy” riding on paved trail of the Coeur d’Alenes rail trail. The lake gave way to numerous small marshy lakes and then transitioned to the Coeur d’Alene River. Lots of wildlife today: grey herons, pelicans, California quail, a turkey with chicks (poult), eagles, muskrat, beaver, and deer. We stopped for lunch in Enaville for burgers and beer (see burger review). We passed the historic and active silver and gold mines along the Silver Valley, and then finished the ride in Wallace. We will be in Wallace for two nights at an Airb&b and will ride the Hiawatha rail trail tomorrow. Scott M’s wife will join us in Wallace to ride the Route of the Hiawatha and to bring additional gear we opted not to carry from Ballard. The three of us enjoyed dinner at the North Idaho Mountain Brew.
