Day 12: Rosalia to Heyburn State Park

This morning was chilly - 36 degrees with wind chill!! Needless to say we were layered with clothes and broke camp very quickly in windy conditions. With the extra 7 miles yesterday, we decided to have a nice warm breakfast at the Hole in the Grounds Cafe in Rosalia. Hard to believe I was starving after last night’s dinner. Two biscuits, two sausage patties, two eggs over easy, covered with gravy, and hash browns, was devoured in less than 5 minutes.  Also not in the picture, a pancake the size of a dinner plate. We were on the rail trail for short periods including the beautiful Tekoa Trestle, but mostly roads due to railtrail gaps. Thanks to brewery hosts for great intel on the best route to Tekoa.  There was another (friendly) dog encounter from dog that wanted to play - looked like a St. Bernard mix that was the same size as our bikes! Yesterday we left the rocky outcroppings of the Scablands and entered the rolling green/yellow hills of wheat in the Palouse. Today we left the those rolling hills as we entered the Ponderosa pine of the  Bitterroot mountains in Idaho. We stopped for lunch at the Coeur d’Alenes trailhead in Plummer, ID and it was easy 7 miles downhill to our campsite at Heyburn State Park along Lake Coeur d’Alene.
