Breakfast was a treat this morning. There was a good spread of the usuals - fruit/yogurt/meat/cheese/breads/sweet breads, plus we could order a hot meal off of the menu. Breakfast was included. We were well fueled for our 56 mile day. That is the length of a loop in Tucson on the bike path. There, I get about 1,000 feet elevation gain. Komoot said today we would have 150 feet! Is it possible to be that flat? We shall find out.
We were quickly back on the bike path - it was only 3-4 blocks away. After that, it took longer than I expected to clear Innsbruck. There was the usual back and forth from one side of the river to the other. Bike paths are seldom signed well for out of town people. Even with voice cues, we took a few wrong turns. There were some short segments of road riding. It's difficult to tell what is a road, and what is a bike path. Often they are the same size! We shared the roadway several times with tractors. Jacinto always pulled off to the side to let them pass. Locals just kept riding.
We saw a Counterpoint tandem today. That's the one that has a recumbent rider in front, and the captain rides a regular bike in the rear. There weren't as many touring cyclists. For a Saturday, I expected more riders in general.
The path was flat, flat until we reached Oberaudorf. Then we turned away from the river and up a couple of climbs. They felt steep after such a flat ride. I had been pushing a little past my desired pace, keeping up with Jacinto. My quads were slightly sore. I was ready to be there.
We are at one of many gasthofs in Oberaudorf. I wonder what the attraction is? Other than being a reasonable distance from Munich for a weekend escape. Plus, beautiful mountains and nature. Maybe I've answered my own question.
Internet here is dismal. Not all of my photos loaded, and I can't get a map to load at all.
We ate at the attached restaurant. I ordered some sort of a schnitzel. It was rolled, with ham and spinach inside of the pork. Jacinto ordered a pork steak with potatoes. They had a salad bar. 7.50 E for one trip. That seemed a little expensive, but we paid. They had sauerkraut, shredded beets, and pickled onions for slightly unusual choices. Jacinto had a beer that is bottled here, but he said it tastes like a beer.
Our big news is that we are combining our last two days into one. Somehow we have managed to thread the needle for the entire last week. It has rained after we arrived in town, or in the evening, but not while we were riding. Monday our luck runs out. It's supposed to rain all day. Tomorrow/Sunday looks good. We are combining our last two days into one 56 mile day. I requested no cancellation fee from our place tomorrow. That was denied. It's a $100. penalty. I will pay that to stay dry. Our Munich lodging had availability tomorrow.
We leave the Claudia Augusta tomorrow. It continues to the west side of Munich, and we are headed to the east side, near the airport. I've really, really enjoyed the extended bike path riding. Jacinto has been much happier now we are in the mountains, he likes the views.
There was a low level rattle from the time we entered room 32. We eventually figured out it was the light fixture. I could feel it vibrate when I touched it. Maybe there’s a ventilation system of some sort in the ceiling? I hung two hangers and a towel on it before there was enouhh gf weight to dampen the vibration.
This bicycle arch was at a children’s bicycle park. They had an obstacle course appropriate for the under five group, with bumps that were perhaps 6” tall. There was a small boy on a strider bike riding the course as we passed.
