Why the Wild Atlantic Way?

Fast forward a few years, at this stage fully addicted we had invested in a Thorn Raven Discovery Tandem and had done several tours abroad but none in Ireland, mainly because of the weather, feeling a bit disloyal, we decided that it was time to tour at home.  Given all the hype about the newly launched Wild Atlantic Way (WAW) the choice was a no brainer, given that the prevailing winds in Ireland are South Westerlies it seemed to make sense to cycle from South to North.  Plans to do multiple training runs, had come to nought, so we wern’t fit, My mum lives in Wexford in the SE, and has space to leave a van so that seemed like an obvious starting point. We also reasoned that we would be able to stay with friends for the first two nights and that route for the first 5 days to the start of the WAW would be fairly flat so we would be somewhat broken in by the time we got to the hilly SW.

Plans made, we booked time off work, gathered our gear and got ready to ride

Bike, tent and Luggage
