Prologue - Ireland’s Windy, wet and wonderful, Wild Atlantic Way. - CycleBlaze

Prologue

The Wild Atlantic Way

The Wild Atlantic Way is a marketeers triumph, while there were numerous driving and sight seeing routes along the Atlantic coast, the idea of marketing them as a single entity was an idea of genius.  For the small amount of money that was spent on branding, route planning and signage it has been a massive success.  It follows the Atlantic coast from Kinsale in South West Ireland to Muff, just outside Londonderry/Derry in the North West.  It has it’s own website so if interested you can look it up here.  https://www.wildatlanticway.com/home

It is primarily designed as a long distance driving route, in some places there are two routes, one for cars and one for larger vehicles like camper vans and buses.  It could do with some modification to optimise the route for cycling, but the options are fairly obvious when you’re cycling it. It passes through some of the most amazing scenery in Ireland, if you don’t mind getting wet, (soaked to the skin) regularly it’s incredible.
