Quan Son to Viang Xie

From the best road to the worst

I started at 7:30. In Na Meo, I bought supplies for the day.

Exiting Vietnam went smoothly. But Laos closed their visa on arrival window for "lunch". When they did open, they were fairly fast, but corrupt as hell.

Immediately, the road was terrible. Soft sand that later changed to compacted clay. Only short parts were tar.

One of the embankments recently collapsed and machinery were still repairing it. Cars and trucks were stuck, but fortunately there was a temporary detour that motorcycles, cyclists and pedestrians could use.

I reached Vieng Xie at 17:40. The ATM limited me to 1 500 000 kip. So I will need to make another withdrawal somewhere in Laos, with another withdrawal charge.

Some hairpin bends in Vietnam have convex mirrors allowing drivers to see oncoming traffic. I used one to take a selfie.
