Monday
My wife and I drove with my bike to Troy and followed the Googler to the LaSalle Institute’s parking lot where the group Comfy Campers was setting up a bunch of tents for their paying customers. After wandering around the campus a bit, I found the check-in tent near a different parking lot.

I checked in and got my wrist band, t-shirt and paperwork. Some folks had already set up their tents around the campus. I found an isolated spot near the dining hall, hoping not to disturb anyone with my snoring. Mrs. Brown helped me set up the tent and we went in search of Spanish food in Troy. After a few false starts, we ended up having lunch at a deli. The Mrs. went on her way and I continued setting up camp, inflating the sleeping pad, pillows and fluffing my quilt. Other people were setting up, riding bikes and chatting. The atmosphere was lively on a beautiful summer afternoon.
Dinner was served at 5 pm, buffet style, in the college dining hall. I grabbed some chow, and asked if an empty chair at a four-top was available. John, Patricia and Mark were gracious enough to let me dine with them. Bicycling serendipity. As the week went on, we became friends.
After dinner, the Parks and Trails folks went over various topics, including the route, interesting stops, the two water/snack stop locations, safety, SAG, the emergency comm system, places where lunch would be available and a myriad of other trip-related subjects. I watched the tail end of a tube replacement demonstration and hit the hay early.
