A bright start today, we took a brief look around Ulm before we left, then rode back to the river path.

No sooner were we in Bavaria, than the rain started. Heavy too, so out came the rain gear. It was a dismal day and an equally dismal section of the Danube trail. We stopped to eat in a bus shelter at Peterswörth. The rain stopped, but all in all it was a dull day.

We arrived in Donauwöorth by means of a tunnel dedicated to cyclists and enquired at the first hotel in the town centre. We were quoted €100+ for a room and the same at the next hotel. We rode through the town and were hailed by a middle-aged couple, also cyclo-tourists, who directed us to their B&B, even phoned to check availability. It was €50, if up a very steep hill, so up we went. The room was large, warm and comfortable and in it, we ate what we had left from the Ulm branch of REWE. No song in the heart today.

Donauwörth, the way in.
