Munich - Wandering around North Germany - CycleBlaze

Munich

0ur last day on the road

We ate at a Bavarian Restaurant last night and I decided I really must have a pork hock before I left Germany.  It arrived accompanied by saukraut and potatoe dumplings- it was absolutely enormous and delicious but I could only eat about a third of it.

Getting packed up this morning for our last day of riding was a bit sad but we were soon on our way over the bridge with the statues on then down to the radweg beside the river.  What an absolutely lovely track it is.  It is unpaved but the surface very fine gravel so good to ride on.  It closely followed the river which was lined with forest - we seemed to be about the only people using it this morning, there were just a very few dog walkers, runners and the very occasional cyclist.  To start off the peace is shattered rather  by the roar of aeroplanes taking off as the airport is close to Freising.

The beautiful radweg

After almost 30 km we emerged and straight away were in the most glorious park 'the English Gardens'. People were really making the most of this fantastic facility and although it was still fairly cold they were out in force having fun.  It is very extensive and we rode for around 7km on mostly well marked tracks until we eventually got to Marianplatza and its mass of people.  Our first job was to find the Hbf and book our train tickets to Paris. We were walking through the extensive pedestrian area and feeling out of place dressed in vaguely normal clothes while nearly everyone else was in lederhosen and dwindles, it was just a pity it wasn't warmer because they had to put thick coats over their finery but they were all getting into the Oktoberfest spirit

The train sorted we decided to locate the MyPlace Self Storage and felt extremely proud of ourselves when we found it someway out.  BUT it was completely shut and looked dead - what now.  We were lucky as a man came along and said they were shut because it was a public holiday.  We wondered what it was perhaps it was 'Ocktoberfest Day' then we realised it was 'reunification Day', how dumb can we get!  Will be back there in the morning but now we know how to find it.

Next to find the hotel it is rather strange the Buddy Hotel and the ultimate in space saving- the entire room including the bathroom  10sqm. We have sorted out what stays and what goes and will be back to MyPlace Self Storage in the morning

Today's ride: 50 km (31 miles)
Total: 2,264 km (1,406 miles)

Tricia GrahamTo Pat FinnieYes we certainly struck a cold patch but forecast for the next few days for warmer weather but we have only had half a day of rain the whole trip. Hope to get rid of the bikes this morning, another day in Munich then to Paris to see Louise and then the long flight home
