At Freising nearly in Munich

A hard day but a good day on the tractor front

The hotel we stayed in in Abenburg was the very best of the whole trip even though it was a 3star one.  A beautiful big room with everything spotless and working properly including the wifi and to top it off the perfect German boiled egg for breakfast, something that has been eluding us this trip.  It's such a lovely little town too.

We had on virtually all the clothes we had with us (minus pyjamas) but were still freezing when we left and it never did warm up significantly.  I even had on the gardening gloves Ken bought the other day under my others.  Such a pity really as it is a bit hard to enjoy what today was a trip through lovely countryside when you are wondering where the next warm Backerie is.

Tricia GrahamA good idea Dodie. I think if we were going much further we would be buying serious warm clothes

At the beginning we were for some time on unsealed tracks but on the whole we didn't often have a problem with loose gravel.  The acres and acres of hops continued - they sure must make  a lot of beer here in Bavaria.  Our first stop was after about 25km at Mainburg in a lovely warm Backerie for coffee and pastries and to watch others there eat highly elaborated breakfasts.

To start we were roughly following the Aben River but then we had to cross over to the Issar.  Crossing over from one river system to another always involves plenty of hills and we got them. The panoramic views we got were wonderful.   Now we were travelling almost entirely on small roads but on the whole the traffic was light.  In many ways this route is very poorly signed - it usually only gives you the direction of the next small town rather than show things coming up later on.  This was no particular problem for us as we had such a good map of the route that we had fortunately managed to get in Prague.  It isn't a Bikeline one but is even better.

The countryside is lovely

About 6km before Freising we reached the Issar River and it was a pretty ride along it to the bridge into Freising and the Hotel

This was about the best day Ken has had seeing ancient machinery so most of the photos he took were of that
