Pensacola Beach Day Off

Based on recommendations, there were basically two places where I would want to eat dinner during my stay in Pensacola Beach. My criteria were that they have good food, not be too fancy, and have a good bar atmosphere. Since I'm usually dining solo, it's more fun to eat at the bar if I can get the full menu . . . which usually you can. So that narrowed it down a bit, and I decided on Crabs last night, and I was not disappointed . . . it turned out to be a good choice!

The beachfront scene at Crabs last night . . . I was not dining outside, that's for sure.

As you can tell, as the night wore on, the weather "deteriorated" somewhat. No rain, but lots of wind and not particularly warm! Plus it was a two-mile hike to the restaurant from where I was staying . . . so it was Uber in both directions! Not a big deal and something I might have walked . . . if it had been nicer weather!

By the next morning, things had improved slightly. It was still windy and a bit overcast but not nearly as threatening. I was up early and was expecting the HVAC contractor between 9:00 and 10:00. So it was easy to be ready for them when they arrived at 9:30! Very nice guys who went right to work without much direction. They probably work in a lot of houses out here on the beach.

But it wasn't long before I was getting hungry, and so decided to walk down to some lunch-type places where I might spend a couple of hours . . . walking, eating, and just killing time. Now, if it had been a warm, sunny day (as planned), I would be on the deck or the beach. Unfortunately, that was not the case. So off I went for the 1-1/2 mile walk to Native Cafe.

The walk down Via De Luna Drive, the main drag through town. As you can see, it is overcast, but at least the wind was at my back (at least in this direction!).

I debated breakfast or lunch and went with some gumbo (it was so-so), a burger (hard to screw up), and a local brew, a Li'l Napoleon IPA. Just one, mind you.

Then the walk back . . . with a little excitement. It's Spring Break after all, but the police were having none of the shenanigans . . . kids in quantity on motor scooters tearing up and down the road and weaving through the side streets and neighborhoods.

I don't know how this was resolved, but they did not look too happy. Hopefully, just a warning and a return of the rental. But not my business, really.

Back at the house, the boys were still hard at work. They hadn't really made the connection between me and the bike and thought the RV parked under the deck was mine! Haha, nope, I'm a biker boy!

I arrived back at the house around 3:00 and found the crew still hard at work. But they were starting to wrap up and, by 4:00, were giving me the lowdown on how to operate the system, all fairly simple. Just tell me where the heat is!

So really, not much to do after they took off except relax and wait for dinner time to come around. So my choice for tonight was Flounder's Chowder House. And, of course, I took Uber both ways.

Tomorrow promised to be a nicer day . . . and a good day for riding, so I was packed and ready to roll out for Orange Beach. Alabama, here I come!
