Day 1: Bend to Tumalo State Park

We packed the rented minivan in Portland and drove to Bend, dropping it off at around noon. Our destination  was Tumalo State Park, an excellent spot only 12 or so miles away.

Traffic on highway 20 was a bit unnerving for a short distance, but it was a nice, short ride to the hiker biker section of the campground.

When we arrived at the campground we met a guy named Brian who was mountain-bike hopping from Tacoma to Trukee, apparently the mountain bike jumping mecca of the US. It was interesting to hear his story.
