More on the Route
State by State
The approach taken here to planning a long route across the country is to break it into smaller rides state by state. I typically use Ridewwith GPS. I map the route trying to use as many trails as possible, paved preferrably, but sometimes gravel. Will use roads, even freeways if necessary and permitted.
In the route planning I like to find spots along the way, towns and villages with amenities - camping, warm showers hosts, dining, grocery, libraries, museums and attractions, viewpoints. On this trip I am noting locations of environmental, energy, sustainability signficance as well as natural sites like parks - city, county, state, national. I have noted Catholic churches and shrines that may be dedicated to patrons of the envrionment and pilgrimage like St. Anthony, St. Francis, St. Kateri and many more.
I have shared my Minnesota section. I've not completed my research on all of the routes. I do note all trails in green, roads in red. Next is Wisconsin.

Illinois, Land of Lincoln and possibly a very brief dip into Iowa.
Indiana wants me...
Beautiful Ohio - Underground Railroad route is noted in purple.
Kentucky - sneaking back into southern Indiana along the Ohio River for a spell along the Underground Railroad Route.
Tennessee - Start of the Natchez Trace Trail
Alabama & Mississippi - Welcome to the South
Georgia on my mind...
Florida - I have gulf side and Atlantic contingency routes planned to, but thinking right up the middle will be safest from storms. I'll get my share of ocean views on the Heritage Trail to Key West. Once in Key West I'd like to charter out to the Dry Tortugas National park to camp if possible. Don't think I will be allowed to take the Solar Trike, but it will be a chance to see this national park. I've also noted Electric Bike Outfitter dealers in case of - electric battery needs along the way.
