Skala Eressos - Cycling Greece, Part 2 - CycleBlaze

Skala Eressos

Fresh from our two night stay in Mithymna, we cycled to the west end of the island for another two night stay at Skala Eressos. We began the day with the short ride along the coast to Petra, where we stopped long enough to check out its claim to fame - a small church built upon a volcanic plug that juts up out of the center of town.

From Petra we went inland (and of course up) through another string of villages leading to Antissa where we broke for lunch. Beyond that, the island's character becomes more rugged and dramatic, shaped by its volcanic history. Late in the afternoon we arrived in Skala Eressos, early enough to explore the town and beach a bit before settling in at the waterfront for a seaside meal.

It's surprising how quickly ending the day with a glass of wine, looking over the the water and setting sun, can become habit forming.
