Mytilini

We arrived in Mytilini, the port city on Lesvos, in early afternoon after about a three and a half hour crossing. We checked in at the 4 star Theophilos Paradise hotel (we picked one of the best places in town partly because we were asking them to care for our luggage for a few weeks), and were once again gratified to find our suitcases there waiting for our arrival.

After settling in we set off to visit Mytilini for the rest of the afternoon, including a walking tour of the harbor and a loop through the east side around the fortress and back.

Mytilini has a pretty waterfront, highlighted by its dramatically domed cathedral. We weren't overly taken with the town though, perhaps because so much was closed up on the Sunday afternoon we arrived. We did enjoy eating dinner on the waterfront though, surrounded by stray cats and a dog nagging us for table scraps.
