The Road to Escabana
Three things I enjoy more than riding on Highway 69 for 64 miles from Crystal Falls to Escabana: 1. Filing my taxes, 2. Getting a root canal, 3. Having a colonoscopy.
The road is literally 64 miles long, with almost nothing to see and nowhere to stop. And to compound things, it’s the 4th of July holiday and except for the one gas station in Hardwood everything was closed (not that there a lot of places to stop anyway). And if boring wasn’t enough, the shoulder and the middle line both had those darn rumble strips. Never fun to ride with the rumble strips and when the cars and trucks come flying up from behind and kindly move left to avoid me, the noise of those rumble strips is jarring.
The highlights of the ride on highway 69 were Felch, a little tiny town with a really, really nice athletic complex and a porta john, and crossing into the eastern time zone at the Delta county line.
Made it to my final destination of the day without incident. That’s always the plan and of course I love it when the plan works out. The alternative would not be fun.
Short post today, hopefully more fun stuff to share tomorrow.
Happy Fourth of July. Stay safe and no fires or lost fingers from shooting off fireworks.
