The Countdown Begins

10 Days and Counting

Today marks the official start to gathering up everything I'm going to need and doing a shakedown of Pea Soup Green (my Surly Disc Trucker). It's been almost a full three years since my last trip when I went from Seaside, OR to the Outer Banks of NC. This one will be quite a bit shorter and take less than a month. Mrs G will be dropping me off at the West Yellowstone Park entrance, sagging me for a few days and then meeting me again in Traverse City, MI. It's about 2,000 miles through what I am certain will be some amazing country...Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Four new states for me that I have never ridden in. Once done that will bring the total number of states I've ridden at leas 62 miles (a metric or more) in to 21...only 29 more to go!

Not sure how many posts I'll do before June 13th, but thought I'd at least get the blog site set up. I hope you will enjoy following me and Pea Soup Green on our second epic adventure. I'll try and do a daily post and include pictures of people I meet, places I visit and the amazing scenery that I will get to experience. Please feel free to send comments, questions and well wishes. One rule that violating will represent a cardinal sin and give us both bad luck is NEVER ask how many flats I've had! If you do, I'll have to ban you from the site ;-( and of course not answer your question until the ride is over.

Bye for now ... Ian

Steve Miller/GrampiesHere's wishing you good weather, tailwind and many FFDs (flat free days). The worst we ever had was trying to get in to Granada, in Spain, this past spring. 3 blow out flats within 10 minutes, until we realized the problem was a disintegrating tire that had been cut by too high brake pads. Crawled our way the last 15 or so kilometres using only the front brakes and keeping our fingers crossed. We would never wish that on anyone!
