Gila Bend has a small, free history museum, with an interesting exhibit on on the famous Butterfield Stage that ran through here from 1858 to 1861, before the Civil War and before the railroad was built.  For $200, you could take the stagecoach over 25 days from St. Louis to San Francisco.
