Saturday Rewiring

A day off! No cycling, just chilling. First order of business: breakfast. We decided to return to Longboat Key since we also planned to visit the Mote Aquarium today as well and then watch the sun set from a bar in Bradenton Beach!

On our way to the Blue Dolphin Cafe!

Next stop: Mote Aquarium.

Sturgeon, which they raise here for the caviar (which I find somewhat suspicious, but they say it protects the species in the wild).

Turtles!

A very active crab. He could not stay still. Not complaining, just sayin'.

Some type of moray eel.

And rose bubble tip anemones attached to base rock.

Lionfish . . . a very venomous species with a really complex body structure.

And more jellyfish.

Find the fish! I think this is a toadfish.

Bonnethead shark. They do not eat humans. Remember that.

Another shark. I leave you to your own devices on this one. He was kinda big. Looked hungry too.

A friendly loggerhead turtle. He might only take a digit, so no feeding or petting.

And a manatee. They only eat lettuce. But don't sleep with them because if they roll over, it's 1200 lbs.

So that was fun and worth the visit. Afterward, we continued up Longboat Key, retracing Tuesday's ride, and stopped at Island Times for a beer or two. As had been forecast (although the forecasts in these parts seem to be highly unreliable), it got dark and cloudy and finally opened up at 5:30 or so, so no sunset. But we enjoyed the beer anyway!
