Surin - mechanical failure

We're still in Surin because while riding to Wat Burapharam, which is just a kilometer or two away from out hotel, Leigh's bike's freewheel hub gave up the ghost. It had been scratchy for a while so it's not as if we had no warning. Thank goodness it happened in a town like Surin where there is a choice of bicycle shops.

I contacted Gorn from Geeno Bike, mainly because his shop's name was the first on the list of the search for bike shops in Surin. His shop is about 4 kilometers from the Maneerote Hotel but he drove across to collect the rear wheel at about 6:30 yesterday evening and I was able to collect it at about ten thirty this morning. He had to re-assemble the entire wheel because Shimano Deore hubs are essentially non-serviceable. Total cost - 1000 baht.

We probably have less than 500 kilometers of cycling left on this trip so all I hope for is that everthing else holds together until we get to Bangkok.

Leigh's bike on it's back waiting for the freewheel hub to be replaced.
