Petchaburi - birdwatching by bike and boat followed by a swim

Off to Pak Thale before 6:30 to try and get the Spoon-billed Sandpiper. Despite great conditions, we lucked out. Same with Nordman's Greenshank and Asiatic Dowitcher However, we did get some good birds on the way and also good waders at Pak Thale.

Then a slog on to Laem Pak Bhia into a headwind that had picked up in the last half hour at Pak Thale. We made use of Mr Daeng, a well-known guide with a boat, who took us out to the sandspit where we made contact with all the specials - Chinese Egret, Pacific Reef Heron, "White-faced" race of Kentish Plover, Malaysian Plover, Pallas' Gull and many more.

All in all, a great day's birding.

Then a slog into the headwind down to Chao Samran beach for our first ever swim in the ocean in south east Asia.

Finally back to Petchaburi with the wind on our backs, thank goodness, where an ice cold Beer Chang has revived me.

Today's ride: 55 km (34 miles)
Total: 343 km (213 miles)
