Many years ago, one of my uncles told us that if we want to see birds we need to travel. For us that was a good enough excuse to travel as any.

We don't consider ourselves serious birders. We are certainly not knowledgeable birders. In fact, I can confidently say that we are pretty crap birders. None the less, it gives us a lot of pleasure and many reasons to jump in the Landy (or on our bikes) and and enjoy nature.

Birding by bicycle also means that, without heavy footsteps, animals and other creepy crawlies are less likely to hear you so it is easier to sneak up on less often seen creatures.

I now keep my binoculars and a small camera permanently in my handlebar bag just in case we find something interesting while we are cycling.
