Rest Day in Savannah
We woke to cool temperatures and an overcast sky today. It warranted pulling out the one pair of long pants I had brought along but had yet to use! Needless to say, upon unrolling them, they were very wrinkled but fit the bill. But the first order of real business was Happy's foot and leg issue. While in Ft Lauderdale back on April 2nd, Happy had an "incident" with a poolside lounge chair. The details to date are murky (and likely to remain so), and the only facts I have are a phone call from the Worthington at 12:39 PM alerting me to the situation. We have biked for two weeks since, only adjusting our schedule the first several days to see how Happy held up. He did fine until I noticed this after breakfast yesterday in Glennville.

Our original plan was to stop by a walk-in clinic on our way into Savannah, but that became more complicated than expected, and we decided to get our hair cut by Big Dray instead (go figure). Since today was our day off, we also figured it would be easier to take care of this once we were lodged at the motel. As it turned out, there was a walk-in clinic practically next door, and Happy made his way over early this morning. Prognosis: stay off the foot (not happening!) and put it on ice twice a day (likely to happen). They also gave him a nice shot of steroids in the left cheek and observed he had a nice inking on the right. This is possibly TMI, but the truth nonetheless.
Observing the doctor's orders as best as possible, we decided on an Old Savannah Trolley Tour. Normally I would not be caught dead on one of these, but it came highly recommended, had entertaining actors playing historical (hysterical) characters at some stops, and would help preserve the bike journey. So off we went and had a very pleasant time, seeing most of the historical district and resting Happy's foot at the same time.
Later on we did some minor wanderings by foot just to get a feel for the city, eat some lunch, and visit a bicycle shop or two. The city is rightfully known for its beautiful squares and gardens and architectural gems.

Our last stop before retiring to the motel was Perry Rubber Bike Shop. In a town like Savannah, you might almost expect it to be Shoppe, but fortunately it was not, and we gladly made our way in to look for leg warmers. Neither Happy nor I had expected chilly weather on this trip, or at least not this early, but today's temperatures told us that maybe, just maybe, it might be a good idea to grab a pair. They would also come in handy later on in the trip as we moved north, as we clearly were reversing the seasons here, moving from "summer" into "spring" as we followed (or maybe beat) the sun on its trip north.
Perry's had exactly what we needed, and at a good price too!
