Liverpool, NS to Shelburne, NS

Finally, sunshine. And warmth! And blue sky! So the day started well. It was already in the mid-60s when we started out of Liverpool.

Today's ride to Shelburne

Liverpool is a cute, smallish town on the Mersey River in Nova Scotia as well as in England.

After leaving town, we continued southward toward Yarmouth along NS-3, the scenic route. And today we had much better viewing pleasure!

We were hoping to take the Trestle Trail at this point and maybe shave a couple of miles off NS-103, our next turn. Unfortunately, even though RWGPS and Google show it as a continuous trail, in reality, the trail stops right before the old railroad trestle, and there is no way to cross the waterway.

Here you can barely make out the old railroad trestle that leads from the end of the park to the mainland. Clearly not ready for trail use!

That was a bit disappointing as we thought we would have time to do some trail riding today. So back to NS-103 and the longish haul to Shelburne. NS-103 has nice wide shoulders but is generally on a straight alignment for long stretches with many long, slow climbs.

A long stretch of NS-103.

. . . and the occasional structure of interest.

But most of what you see is a very wide right-of-way, trees, and hills. We finally arrived in Shelburne, a sleepy little port town on a bay of the Atlantic Ocean.

Shelburne was established after Loyalists opposed to the American Revolution settled here in 1783.

Shelburne has a great many structures that date to the time of the Loyalist settling.

And a beautiful sunset as well.

Not too many places were open, but we finally settled on a waterfront pub restaurant. Happy had cod, and I had lasagna. Need carbs for tomorrow!

Today's ride: 47 miles (76 km)
Total: 3,189 miles (5,132 km)
