Gutenburg Museum

We hadn't intended to stay for 3 nights and two days here in Mainz. However, we have found much to interest us here. It has been good to stay in a convenient campground and be tourists on foot for a change. The Chagall windows, the beautiful town squares with interesting fountains and sculptures, the Gutenburg Museum are just some of the reasons we decided to stay.
Plus, when we arrived, the rough trail had been hard on our bike and trailer. We once again had trouble with the screw attachment on the trailer (found a solution at a hardware store here) and the trailer had a flat tire. All are fixed now and we are ready to ride on to Frankfurt tomorrow to catch the train to Kassel to start the Weser River route.

Our view across the river from the campground.

At our campground in Mainz - we came back after a day of sightseeing to find that we were surrounded on all sides! The tent on top of the vehicle beside us was very interesting to see, and only about a foot away from the side of our tent. We must be becoming "Europeanized" as this level of congestion is becoming less uncomfortable for us.

Language breakdown - Barry said two (in German) but his pronunciation actually translated to a request for three cafe creme gros (large)! No wonder the server laughed at us crazy Canadians.

For people like us who love books and history, the Gutenburg Museum is a treasure. It was interesting to learn about how the letters were sorted by frequency of use - much like our modern keyboard.

We spent many happy hours here learning about Gutenburg (15th century) and other types of printing in Asia and Europe.
