In Asolo and Bassano del Grappa (a photo gallery)
Asolo
I’ve carried forward three memories of Asolo from our visit twenty-three years ago. One was of that crazy walk up the hill in the middle of a chariot race that I mentioned earlier. One was of the lovely hotel we stayed at then - surprising, because I don’t routinely remember places we stayed. I don’t remember why this one stuck in my memory, but there must have been something special about it. And the third thing was our dinner, which stands out in my memory as one of my favorite dining experiences in Europe. Asolo sits high above the plain, and when we ate on the deck at sundown we watched the lights from below flicker and come on like a thousand stars across the basin as daylight faded.
Somehow though, I completely forgot about the town itself and what a strikingly pretty little place it is. Maybe these photos will help me remember this time.

Bassano del Grappa
As we indicated before, Bassano surprised both of us by how warm and welcoming it felt - one of our favorite stops of the tour. A place we’d be happy to find ourselves back at someday, for a longer stay.

Yet, it could also be a quote from psalm 111:
"cornu eius exaltab[i]tur in gloria"; his horn shall be exalted in glory.
Given the fact it's a psalm, we could of course assume it is God whose horn is mentioned here, but who knows? It could also very well be an allusion to a great New World artist made by a biblical time traveler. That's all right.
