Wimbledon and the Theatre

Class and culture

This morning we went out to the Wimbledon tennis park to tour the grounds and the museum. Even if you are not a tennis player this place is very impressive.  After the tour Tim and I went for a quick pub lunch and pint followed by a short rest.

In the afternoon Tim and I wondered around some of the sites of London before meeting up with Hilary and Christopher at the Prince of Wales theatre to see The Book of Mormon.  The play was hilarious but it is completely irreverent towards religion and a little off colour at times.  Nonetheless we all laughed ourselves silly.

The sign on court 18 where the longest match in history was played. This can no longer happen because they use the tie break even in the 5th set.

The entrance to the new media centre. The clocks show the current time for the locations of the 4 major tournaments.

A view of court 18 and Henman hill or Murray’s mound, take your pick. This is where you can sit and watch tennis on a big screen eating strawberries and cream while drinking champagne or Pimms.

The skyline of London. They have great names for some of the buildings such as the gherkin, scalpel, cheese grater, walkie talkie and the shard.

There are plaques like this one listing all of the champions over the years.

The evolution of the tennis ball. Yellow balls became the norm in 1986 because they are easier to see.
