Wallingford to Henley

Our penultimate day of cycling took us from Wallingford to Henley on the Thames.  It was a pretty easy day starting with an uphill into the Chilterns which is a forested region in this area of England.  The route was again a mixture of road and trail  but when on the roads there is very ore traffic then we had previously encountered.  We passed by Greys Court a manor now owned by the National Trust.   Once in Henley we went past our accommodation for the night, which is at a local golf club, and went into town for lunch.  Tim and I did a little retail therapy as well. Tonight we met another friend with whom we had travelled in Spain a number of years ago.  It was great to catch up.

We saw this interesting plaque on the town hall. The charter of privileges had many benefits but one was allowing the town to hold markets in the town square.

Greys Court. It was originally built in 1346 but added to over the years. In the 1930s Ian Flemings mother (007 Ian Fleming) lived here. It has also been used as filming location. For numerous productions including Agatha Christie and Hercule Poirot.
