Bletchley Park

Today we went off to Bletchley Park to see this historic site.  For those who may not be familiar with this park it was the site for the British code breakers during WWII.  The movie the Imitation Game was based on what happened here, more or less.  It is true that Alan Turing worked here and was instrumental in the success but he was not alone.  The best and brightest English mathematicians worked here.  There were over 9,000 people working here 24/7 breaking code and at least 50% were women.  What was accomplished here was truly amazing, basically inventing the first computer.
Everyone who worked here had to sign the official secrets act and a violation was considered treason and subject to execution, so serious stuff.

We had to travel from the Eutson station to Bletchley. This sign was in the train station which to me is a blatant statement of the obvious, nonetheless it was there.

A statue of Alan Turing who as it turns out was gay so rather than being celebrated and given medals he was labelled a criminal and driven to suicide by cyanide poisoning at the age of 41. He was only pardoned in the 2013, sad but true.

Pat HeydonWe are certainly aware of BP. Certainly didn’t know you could visit. Interesting photos and utterly shameful what they did to Alan Turing.
