Switzerland in Retrospect

The mythic land of cows with bells, chalet style houses, cheese, and chocolate, home of international institutions and three (or four) official languages. Wow! But did we find it?

Switzerland Plusses

Chalet style houses (with flowers)
Cows with bells
Interesting town centres with medieval buildings
Well marked cycle routes
Panaramic views from hilltops

Switzerland Minuses

Unpleasant people in the German speaking cantons
Unsafe drivers
(As ever) smokers
Super high prices in grocery stores, restaurants.
High prices for camping
Only one language spoken in each region.
Not enough chocolate or cheese - see below, lack of stores.
Scarce grocery stores, water, stores of any kind, in most towns.
National bike routes that favour gravel tracks and that take you away from most town centres
Ugly new construction mixed in with pleasant stuff - apparent lack of zoning
Hills! (not their fault)

Today's ride: 58 km (36 miles)
Total: 3,440 km (2,136 miles)
