The missing link

if you managed to make any sense at all of this period, you might remember that I started out by telling the first of two significant events that happened on my ride to Columbia Slough, the Trust But Verify incident.  Sometime over the next 24 hours is when the manic episode began, and suddenly my mind was filled with magic, fantastical visions and I began seeing things in a new way, making connections and veering off on tangents j. A way I don't remember ever having done before.

The day I wrote Trust But Verify and the even more bizarro Still Standing After All These Years feels to me now like the peak of the experience.  I probably spent at least a dozen hours staring at the iPad on that day as well as composing or dreaming up part of it on my ride earlier in the day, keying in one new revelation after another at a furious pace, spooling out a wall of text long enough to carry me south to Milwaukee or Oregon City.  And the next evening the hallucinations returned and it was apparent that s trip to the nearest emergency room was called for.

And in spite of all that chaotic verbiage, there's still an unfilled gap - a description of that second episode that happened the previous day that I forgot to mention to Rachael.  That significant incident remains unreported and is possibly destined to remain unreported because I can't get it back.  The mind draws a blank now when I rethink what happened between Teust But Verify and my return home. And unless it suddenly pops out of my head some night, we'll never know because all other traces have been lost or destroyed.  First, my mania destroyed about four more hours of of great literature because I typed straight through two compete battery charges on the iPad, and failed to save any of it because I didn't try to upload any of it to the website until I was prompted to it when my iPad warned me it was about to shut down; but by then the update was too large to upload in one shot.

The text is gone for good, died because it never left the iPad and got overlaid with the next update.  There was still another resource that would have at least reminded me of what the second issue was - a set of notes and reminders I jotted down on the iPad to come back to later.  Unfortunately though those notes got bonked off the tablet in the Apple Wars, so there's really no place to turn to now but inside of my Piltdown skull.

The missing link.

So this gap looks likely to be permanent, like the memory gap Rachael has never filled from her concussion accident.  If the incident ever does reemerge someday we'll let you know,  it on the other Line.  This loco engine is headed for the the retirement home  as soon as we can get it there.  In the meantime, maybe it will help bring it all back if I take some helpful advice.
