Gear

I will be riding my trusty Cannondale T2000 Touring Bike that I have had since the late 90s (1996 or so). I purchased it to replace a stolen Schwinn Voyager and use it exclusively for all my riding. It is very well geared for loaded touring as it has a lower limit 26-tooth granny up front and an upper limit 30-tooth cog on the freewheel.

The usual configuration/setup . . . not much less than for an extended tour, given how light I travel.

The rear panniers were divided between bike clothes on the left side and casual clothes on the right. I also packed rain gear, spare tubes, tools, lubrication, and a bike lock in various pockets. I like panniers with outside pockets, as it helps organize the gear. For waterproofing, I just pack in plastic bags. That has worked for many tours I've been on, and I'm satisfied with that approach.

For this trip I took two light systems, my usual Light & Motion Vis 360, which is a helmet-mount system with a front and rear light, supplemented by a Specialized Stix Sport Taillight that I can mount quickly and easily. The helmet system is great for dusk and evening/night riding and for days with poor visibility (fog). But for daylight riding, I wanted a rear taillight that was easy to mount, as I'll be doing more riding on busy roads for this trip than I normally do.
