What We Thought of the Main Radweg

As places to cycle go, the Main Radweg is really good. A ton of money has been spent on improving the cycling surface, and to provide information panels, about the Radweg itself and about the towns and other sights along the way. In fact, the information provided all along is actually phenomenal. The route also includes some super interesting towns - like Miltenberg, Wurzburg, Eltmans, and Bamberg.

On the other hand, not every town is a gem and not all the pathway is well marked and smooth sailing. While we would bring children without hesitation on the Mosel and the Rhine, the Main would be a little iffy. Camping, too, while plentiful is not everywhere, and guesthouses also, while very plentiful, are not everywhere.

Main Radweg Pros

Lots of great smooth path by the river
Terrific information signage
Available camping and hotels
Good signage

Main Radweg Cons

Some rough spots
Too much on or beside road cycling
Some lapses in directional signage
Info signage almost all in German
