What We Thought of the Enns Radweg

For really gorgeous scenery, lots of guest houses, not many hills, good path surface, and good route signage, the Enns Radweg from Radstadt to Admont would be hard to beat. We came back to this one not only because of the family in Irdning, but because of these other factors. Not only that, but getting to Radstadt involves going through or around Salzburg, and along the Salzach river/Taurern radweg. All these are super prime cycling areas.

On the other hand, unless you go down to Admont and turn around, one has to recognize that the character of the route changes once you enter the national park. The national park is in itself an exciting area, but being on road with lots of hills is not our idea of great fun. It only takes a couple of days to pass through the park, so maybe the other great bits of the route are worth it. I think we would come back, but for sure we could never bring kids to the lower part of the river.

Enns Pros

Good path surface and route marking Great mountain and valley scenery Lots of places to stay Connecting routes are very good and exciting

Enns Cons

Difficult section in Gesause National Park Towns have many nice chalet houses, but lack exciting old town sections A number of camping places shown in the Bikeline book were not there
