If someone has described for us in advance a cycle path that is smooth and flat, that runs beside water, and that begins and ends in a drop dead gorgeous city, how eager we would have been to get onto it! Well Colmar to Strasbourg is it! The only defect is that it is really just one day long, between the anchor cities, but there are also great possible side trips, and each city deserves a careful visit as well.
