Ride Day 1 - Adelaide (Glen Osmond) to Birdwood (Mt Pleasant)

The first day's ride included the longest steep climb of the entire Mawson Trail -- 8km with a lot of 12-15% gradient along Stone Hut Road, near the start of the Trail. This road continues up to Lenswood after which other dirt- and bitumen roads traverse farmland to Lobethal and Birdwood. I then rode on to Mount Pleasant, where Jill (and Tennyson) and I stayed the night.

Start of the trip - ready to roll

The first 8km of the Mawson Trail is the most difficult stretch, climbing-wise. There are several steep ramps like this one, made additionally challenging by an abundance of loose gravel. I needed to walk 75 and 150 steps on two of these ramps
