Day 257-264: Slovenia to Warsaw
We left Cath heading to German to visit family.
I backtracked from Ljubljana a little to go around the Alps (too far to go to try and go over everything). I found myself re-tracing part of my route from a previous trip in Slovenia (15 years ago). At least it wasn’t very hilly. Slovenia really is a nice country. I didn’t want to go over the alps this time. It'd just mean I needed to spend more time before getting to Nordkapp.
Three days to Vienna.
Stayed in Vienna with Niko – great WarmShowers host. Great central location. Should have stayed longer. Have seen Vienna before. Need to keep heading northeast.
Slovakia only got a few hours. Some of the roads were pretty bad. The Eurovelo path followed the embankment on the March river. Rough ride in parts. Bunkers still in place - I guess in case the Iron Curtain needs to come down again one day.
A couple of days in the Czech Republic.
And now three days blasting through Poland to Warsaw.
I might be going a bit to fast (no time to do anything else!). It has been very flat since leaving Vienna. Lots of farmland, forest and villages. Especially Poland – so many villages. And no Sunday trading. Makes it hard to eat when there is nothing open (kept alive by a kebab after 170km of searching).
Today's ride: 1,158 km (719 miles)
Total: 13,912 km (8,639 miles)
