I headed out of Khiva and found myself of a lovely smooth road heading North West. I passed fields of wheat, orange orchards and grazing pastures where cows merrily munched away. The nearby Amu Darya river ensures that this region is green with cultivation.. a welcome sight after kilometers of nothingness. As soon as I turned onto the main desert road towards Bukhara, the tarmac deteriorated and the bike, and I, took a beating for the next 55km. A bad tarmac road is worse than gravel, and today was no exception. Energy sapping, bone rattling, bike breaking stuff. I stopped for a dumpling soup lunch and got involved with the chef's plov making Instagram video! The restaurant refused to let me pay for my meal. "Uzbekistan loves visitors, you are welcome!" they told me. The road surface finally became perfect after the road forked into a dual carriageway. Long may that last. I found accommodation again a small hotel outside Miskin, the Kumush Xanum Motel. Comfortable enough with adequate food choices, and fresh fruit sold at reception!
