Today was meant to be an easy ride but the head wind made sure it was not. The long stretches of road through the Mangystau desert were spectacular, but not so enjoyable in the chilly wind that lasted the day. I reached Shetpe, and settled in the basic road side "Satti Motel". I was handed a towel and fresh bedlinen and told to change the bedding after the previous guests because the maid was busy! There's a first time for everything! While having dumpling soup for lunch, I got "chatting" to a couple of Police officers, who informed me that the land border into Uzbekistan is closed... I will have to take a train. I will reconfirm nearer the time. Needless to say, these Police officers paid for my lunch, as a "welcome gift to Kazakhstan!". So kind. I went into town to buy some much missed fruits and veg to compliment the meat heavy meals I have been getting. Met a friendly camel wandering the streets, who followed me for a while, until I made my way back to my lodgings. Had plov for dinner, with my recently bought raw veggies - delicious!
when I showed him some attention.
Today's ride: 68 km (42 miles)
Total: 160 km (99 miles)
