Osh is the seconds largest city in Kyrgystan, with a population of just under 500,000. It's a pleasant city with a laid back vibe, some nice restaurants, smiley locals, an English medium international school, numerous statues and squares commemorating various historic personalities, Soviet style administration buildings, flag poles flying huge Kyrgyzstan flags, run down fountains and a vibrant central bazaar where one can buy almost anything. Ed and I spent the morning yesterday in the central bazaar where we located and bought bike boxes from a vendor whose lead I got off a cycling WhatsApp group. It's always a challenge finding bike boxes, so we were thrilled. In the event of not finding a box from a bicycle vdndor, the next option is to approach white goods retailers who will invariably have cardboard boxes from which a bike box can be manufactured, using a little creativity! We got talking to some university students who were keen to help, so I asked them if they could arrange a taxi large enough to take us and our boxes back to our guest house. They delivered with flying colours! The rest of yesterday was spent resting, as it was meant to be a rest day, and walking around Osh, taking in the very pleasant atmosphere of the city. Ed located and excellent Italian restaurant for dinner, which was a fantastic change to the usual kebabs and tomato salads.
