Today was going to be hot. Max temperatures were forecast at 43 celcius. I departed at 6 am from Bukhara and set off on the roads towards Navoi, aiming to beat the worst of the heat. The ride was pleasant and actually enjoyable. It's nice to be riding in populated areas again! School kids going to school waved, smiled and shouted "Hello!". There was one 6km section of gravel which annoyed, but other than that smooth tarmac. I met a French cyclist, Pierre, who was staying again the same hotel as I was last night. He had left at 5am, and I caught up with him having symptoms of heat exhaustion at around 11 am. I stopped to have a quick drink with him and then we went out ways. He is ok this evening, but what he experienced was a reminder to us all to be respectful of the heat. I was glad to roll into Navoi in good time, and found a hotel with (semi) AC rooms. My laundry dried in 8 minutes out under the sun! I walked around town with a wet towel over my head and shoulders to keep cool, and I didn't even get any funny looks! I found a nice restaurant with a very friendly waitress who served me a good dinner, after which I settled back in the front garden of the hotel as the sun disappeared. It was still 37 degrees, and that felt cool! The heat wave should peak tomorrow after which Google weather tells me it is cooling down to late 30s... I take that for now.
Today's ride: 108 km (67 miles)
Total: 1,226 km (761 miles)
