Rest day in Saint Jean Pied a Port

We decided to sit out the day due to the pessimistic weather forecast, and were then frustrated to see a fine day develop instead.  It was therapeutic and welcome to enjoy a rest day though.  We ran a variety of errands and enjoyed a walking tour of the town.  For me the highlight was finding a bright orange Euskadi Euskatel cycling jersey.  (I really rode this to death over the next decade.  It was almost completely faded when I finally retired it).

Five years later, near Keswick in northern Britain. I’d forgotten where I’d bought this shirt until rereading this journal.

Over breakfast we enjoyed visiting with a couple from Los Angeles who for the past few years have been walking the pilgrimage route from Le Puy in stages.  They’re quite interesting, independent travelers.  It was fun to compare notes on places we’d both visited.

We had a so-so dinner at a sidewalk restaurant sitting beneath a stand of magnificent sycamores, their gnarled limbs laced together latticlike formed a lovely green bower above our heads.
