Layover in Ainhoa
A rest day (Sunday), and very rainy. We’d hoped to take a hike into the surrounding hills but spent the day in our room instead, out of the downpour. We had lunch at a nearby hotel, and found a few items for dinner later in our hotel room at one of the few open stores in town.
In midafternoon the skies cleared a bit, allowing us to take a hike for a few hours after all. We enjoyed a stunning walk, climbing steeply up the hill to the west to a nearby summit. We enjoyed wonderful views, as the weather steadily improved: west to La Rhune and beyond; north to the coast; and best of all down on Ainhoa, which is perfectly beautiful seen from above.
