Day ride from Beynac

Another fabulous sunny day. After petit dejeuner at the hotel we cycled off for Domme, a pretty village atop the southern rim of the canyon.  We tried, perhaps successfully, to send an email to Steve Robinson from the top of a humorous kiosk styled like a musketeer.

From Domme we dropped back to the river for a walk through Le Roque-Gagnac and then rode east to Sarlat where we had lunch at a sidewalk cafe before returning to Beynac on a very quiet but hilly route.  We returned to the main road along the river several miles from town , and were sobered by an emergency crew’s efforts to cut free a woman smashed into her driver’s seat by a head-on collision.

We had a very light dinner - cookies, torte, a beer - which was all we could find at the bakery, the only thing open in this tiny town.  We ate by the river, reading our books until dusk, enjoying the riverside life.

The view upriver along the Dordogne from the belvedere at Domme - one of my favorite viewpoints in France.
