A Cold Rainy Ride

We had a very cold night in the tent. It rained hard all night without a break, but the real issue was the gusty wind which hit with much force . Our tent handled the elements admirably, but sometimes when the wind caught, it sounded like a whip.  Yikes, this weather is forecast for the next 4 days. We’ll continue heading south and hope to finally find some warmer weather. On the news we saw that this mess of rainy cold weather extends all the way to Barcelona, Germany and UK -  so we’re not alone.

Camping here was not great, but it gave us a place to sleep. We are suited up and ready to go.

A dramatic skyline looking across the Saone River. It’s hard to tell but there are high hills behind those clouds.

Not a good look but needs must!

We were enchanted by this sculptor’s whimsical creations recycled from old tools, farm equipment, etc.

The first 20 km were pretty good, just some light rain.  But then it turned ugly and we became too cold to continue. We found a room in Villefranche-sur-Saone, walked in looking like drowned rats and left a muddy pool in our wake. We apologized but quickly made our way upstairs, had hot showers, made coffee and got under the duvet to get warm. An early stop, but wise considering the weather.

As we look out our window hours later, it has continued to rain hard. Glad we are inside.

Today's ride: 46 km (29 miles)
Total: 1,185 km (736 miles)

Steve Miller/GrampiesWow, we all sure managed to hit a miserable weather patch in France this time round. Hopefully it will blow itself out and send us, if not sun, then at least less cold and rain.
