Day 29 - Praise The Lord
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!” Psalm 150:6
Today broke me. A large storm came in as I was getting ready for bed and stormed all through the night. It feels wide to feel all the drops but not get wet. Love the bivy! Woke up to more rain but also a rainbow! God keeps his promises. Got going and was awake but low in motivation already. Had 13 miles to a town and about 5 was on gravel/clay. Not too bad. Took a long time at the gas station and called mom and dad. Finally got going had a lot more gravel. Still nothing too horrible. Same guy warned MDs about a bear, a Yukon construction worker and he seemed really concerned. That made me concerned. I came up to it on the side of the road. About 50 ft away I called dad. I didn’t know what to do. Eventually it walked off the road and I was safe to go. The next many miles had some really bad chip seal. And then really loose gravel son with lots of dust. It was about .25 gravel and then .25 miles chip seal. I just could not get into a rhythm. I felt pretty exhausted too. Mentally I was not in it. And then I saw Mike and Doug again! Got to chat with them. So glad. But i left feeling more tired. And had more of the horrible road. It wasn’t until i finally got into beaver creek that it eased up. But i was so cooked at that point. Everything was so tight and sore from holding on so tightly. Got to call mom and take awhile. It started to rain really hard but I figured it’d blow over. It was nice to just chill there and relax for a bit. Got going and I was feeling really tired. The wind and road had destroyed me. I didn’t know how much longer I could go. I still had awhile left. The wind was relentless. It messed with my brain. I started crying. I didn’t think I could do it. Everything hurt. I was so tired. Slowly I made it. Mike by mile. I was frustrated. I made it to the Alaska sign. I took a picture and I looked at the sign through my phone. I had to put it down and realize just what I was taking a picture of. ITS ALASKA!!!! I had a guy take my picture and then I went through customs. I had the worst climbing still left but honestly felt much better. Had 25 left or so. I was moving much better and the wind had died down. The road was smooth! I finally got to camp. There wasn’t any sites but I met Mark, Larry, Mary, and Marlene (I think I got all that right) and they let me camp by them. They knew Wheaton! What a blessing. Got to talk to Phoebe and SJ. So good. So tired. Can’t wait to sleep.
