Day 27 - You’ve Already Won
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,” Colossians 3:16-17, 23
Woke up at 12:15. And the sun had just set! I had about 60-75 minutes of somewhat dark and it really wasn’t dark at all. Just so incredibly foggy. 210 was the goal but I just broke it down in sections. The mountains were incredible. Just a great morning to praise God! There wasn’t anyone out. Scary at times, peaceful too. I got to where I was hoping to make it the night before at 72 miles in. I told myself the day is just starting! That was just a warmup. And honestly it felt really light. Definitely worked harder than I should’ve but nothing horrible. Had the rest of my muffins and moved on! Climbed to the highest point of the day and then descended. I had cell! First time in 600+ miles. And my 3rd town in 700 miles. Insane. Got food and called Mom, Aidan and Maddie, and then dad as I got going. Got chased by some really fast dogs. And I met my first Yukoner! She was exactly what you’d expect. Thanks Vicki! My dreams have come true. I feel like the trip can officially be done now 😂. Good talking to dad next to a beautiful lake. Sometimes I forget that these mountains aren’t back in Wheaton. I gotta enjoy it more!! Felt a little tired. I just had one point in the morning where I was really close to falling asleep riding. A bit scary lol. Wake up Jude! Got to talk to Autumn and then Mr. Humphrey. Locked in as I climbed for awhile. Lots of up and down. Got really sleepy again from 85-35 to go. Really hard. Just pedal Jude! Long day out. I kept yelling at myself. Just pay attention. Enjoyable day though. I asked Dave at a rest stop for some water. He also offered a PB+J. So good!!!! Necessary too. I think I underestimated food by one or two bars. Had to conserve and go into my reserves. First time I’ve had to on the trip I think. So I can’t complain. Had a nice tailwind to help me out but overall my legs felt pure bold. Really pleased. Super fit. It’s hard mentally when you’re still 4 hours out. It’s been such a long day and it’s still a long day out. Messed with my head a lot but a beautiful lake to look at helped distract me. And an awesome shoulder allowed for some distraction and tiredness to come over. Felt nice. Got to talk to Dave, Mom, and Caleb coming into town. I got a hotel. It’s so crappy. I was really frustrated and the lady was not helpful and some other things went poorly but I got frustrated at her. I feel bad. I called Papa and went to get dinner after a shower. The restaurant was closed cause they shut down water. So I got gas station pizza. Whitehorse is quite a crappy town. Took it back to the hotel and caught up on lots of things. All journal entries are now updated. Thanks for waiting. Got to talk to Mom and Dad, finished up some things and heading to bed. I’m tired!!!

Looks like you are making tremendous progress towards the goal. As you in Whitehorse and based on your progress, I’m guessing you will be near the Canadian border today, up towards Tok, Alaska the within the next 2 days, and then pressing on towards Fairbanks.
We live in North Pole (10 miles east of Fairbanks) and would love to give you a place to rest and prepare for the next leg up the Dalton Highway which is almost exactly 510 miles from our house. The Dalton is a serious undertaking and you will experience all the good and hard that Alaska has to offer. From our house, it is 90 miles to the start of the Dalton. The last “services” are around 30 miles. After that, the next location to get food / supplies in the Yukon River Camp approximately 200 miles from us. After that the next location is Coldfoot, another 100 miles up the road. After Coldfoot there are NO supplies until you reach Deadhorse which is another 170 miles north.
I can not stress enough the need to have several days of food and supplies for each leg between those 2 locations. Currently the Dalton is closed to ALL travelers at mile 351 due to a culvert failure which has resulted in a 80 ft x 30 ft deep washout which is normal part of spring that far North. The Dalton is also a trucking road, you will see a steady stream of large trucks traveling in both directions and the majority of the road is gravel which turns to a sticky mess if there is any rain. Highly recommend the widest tires your bike can handle as the road is very hard on bike tires.
Again, you are most welcome to stay with us and resupply / prepare for the journey north. Pedalpushinllka at gmail dot com
