Day 22 - Beautiful Eulogy
“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21
Really hard day. Honestly these all are. I woke up on my own at 5 and was quite confused. I thought I would be much more tired. It’s weird cause it’s pretty much always bright here. I’ve never seen it get very dark. So maybe my body is just out of rhythm. I took my time packing up and finally got going. It was still pretty smoky but I knew it was gonna rain later so I was just waiting for that to take the smoke away. Got to a gas station at 53 and then a subway. As I made it up, the Bernstetter’s called! I got some good song recommendations. Good talking with you all 🩷. Are the sandwich and got going. I called Caleb as I got to the top of a hill and was not feeling good. My stomach is horrendous. Right before I walked into the bathroom, Ard and Verna (the Dutch people I met last night) ran over and said hi and gave me a clog bar and their number if I need anything. I started to descend and I realized the front derailleur that I had just paid to get fixed yesterday was broken again! So frustrating!! But then I started to black out. I ate 3 bars as quick as I could and felt a bit better. Never had that happen before. I was feeling quite weak but somehow was still moving decently fine. I really just tried to lock in and it helped a lot. To only focus on biking. I misted a lot on me but it wasn’t anything too horrible. I only got my rain jacket out once. I was feeling pretty sick but I rode past another bear just off the side of the road. So awesome. I got to a gas station and felt horrible. I took awhile and called mom. All my electronics were dying too so I tried to ration power today. I started going again and had only 40 left but I started to black out again. So frustrating. As I climbed a hill I was frustrated but I saw an rv pulled over on the side of the road. There was a mom and daughter standing outside like a little cheering section! As I got closer I realized it was Peet and Anne who I met a week ago! They had their arms extended again and were so happy. I got bars and a banana which was just what I needed. They’re incredible!!! I kept climbing and was so annoyed at the wind and hills. I started yelling all my swear words saying “THIS IS SO FREAKING DUMB AND STUPID AND IDIOTIC.” I mean I’m riding to the ocean just to turn around and fly home. So stupid. I was having a really hard time taking joy in it and thanking God for the time. I slowed made my way closer and called Mom as I was close. There was a guy that pulled up behind me on his bike and we rode for a mile or two. His name was Alex. Cool guy. The road I’ve been has been horrible. Lots of traffic and really a crappy shoulder. Not too fun. Finally made it to the hotel, showered, got dinner (an hour wait cause so much power is out in town), caught up on a lot of things, got to watch hockey with lots of Canadians (very entertaining), called mom and dad, did my laundry(!!), and hopefully getting good sleep. All pictures and journals are updated now.
